Croatian meat imports on the rise
Beef was the most imported product of this segment, with a total amount of 16,994 tons (up to 10%) of which 3,279 tons was frozen. Pork marked an 8% increase in imports, reaching a total of 66,981 tons, according to Total Croatia News. Poultry imports suffered a decrease from 18,794 tons to 17,490 tons. Overall, meat imports rose by 11%, sausages, reaching a total volume of 18,000 tons, sausage products being on the rise with 6%, while cured meat rose with 1%.
The total value of meat imports was estimated at 261 million euros (up to 15%) by Branko Bobetic, director of Croatiastocar umbrella association. At the same time, exports of meat reached a value of 49 million euros (down by 9%).
The same association mentioned that the imports of live animals increased by 13% while the value was on the rise with 28% compared to the first nine months of 2016. In the first nine months of 2017, the value of imports of all types of animals was around 68 million euros (up to 28 percent) and the value of exports was approximately at 42 million euros (up to 13%), reported Croatiastocar.
