Czech authorities find Polish chicken with salmonella
Polish meat exports are again in the spotlight in the Czech Republic after almost half a tonne of Polish chicken meat was found infested with salmonella by the State Veterinary Administration (SVS) in the neighbouring country.
According to Novinky.cz, the bacteria was found in a batch of meat supplied by Polish firm Dromico, to Czech firm Astra Maso in Novy Bydzov, with an expiry date of March 24th, 2019. The meat was intended for catering facilities and did not see much retail distribution. So far, no one has fallen ill from the contaminated meat and according to the SVS, the risk is minimal if the meat is cooked properly. This discovery follows another scandal, with Polish beef infested with salmonella found in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. From the end of February until last week, Czech authorities have maintained emergency controls for all the beef imported from Poland. Nevertheless, this new scandal is unlikely to reinstate emergency controls for chicken meat imported.
