Danish Crown's acquisition of Zandbergen receives approval

The latest acquisition positions Danish Crown as Europe number one supplier of bacon. This step is part of the company's long-term strategy in becoming the leading global bacon producer.

"It is clear that our new position gives us some unique opportunities to develop this product category. The hard work begins now, particularly when it comes to the crucial task of integrating the company", says CEO of Tulip Food Company Kasper Lenbroch.

Baconspecialist Zandbergen was founded in 1984 and is mainly active in private labels and mostly operates in northern European markets such as the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden.

The company's production facilities and administrative offices are both based in the Amsterdam suburb of Haarlem. The company is currently expanding its production capacity significantly in order to meet its customers’ requirements.

Danish Crown states in its press release that "like DK-Foods in the pepperoni category, Zandbergen is an extremely lean company with a low degree of complexity and a production based on very few core recipes."

"We are now very well equipped for the future and for realizing the ambitious goals set out in Danish Crown’s 4WDstrategi. With the acquisition of DK-Foods in spring, we became the European market leader in pepperoni, and with the purchase of Baconspecialist Zandbergen, we also become the leader in the very interesting bacon category. Now the task is to grow our business by at least an extra billion leading up to 2021", says Kasper Lenbroch.
