EU increase pork exports to China by 26%

Between January and March, the EU pork exports to China have grown by 26.2% reaching 954,553 tonnes cwt. This represents more than 28% of the total volume shipped last year to China (3,341,667 tonnes). In terms of value, the growth was +21%.
The biggest growth in exports was reported in Taiwan (99%), followed by Congo (92%), Hong Kong (83.9%) and Angola (70.5%).

In the first quarter of the year, total exports outside the EU market, excepting the UK, reached 1,602, 209 tonnes, up 30.1%, worth €3.4 billion (+16.6%) from the same period last year.
Japan has registered the biggest drop in pork exports, 77,821 tonnes, down 23% compared with Q1 2020. At the same time, EU pork imports have grown by 10.6% in volume (11,278 tonnes) and by 7.7% in value (€21.3 million). Switzerland was the main supplier of pig meat in the EU single market, with 5,160 tonnes cwt shipped for the first quarter of this year.
