EU increases pork exports in the first quarter of 2025

Between January and March 2025, the European Union further expanded its pork exports to third countries. According to the Agricultural Market Information Company (AMI), almost 1.1 million tons of pork (including by-products) were sold outside the EU in the first three months of the year. This represented an increase of approximately 3% compared to the same period last year.

Spain maintained its position as the leading exporting nation within the EU, with an export share of over one-third. The country increased its exports by 12% compared to the previous year. The Netherlands and Denmark followed at a considerable distance. Despite its importance in European pork production, Germany only ranked sixth. Due to export restrictions resulting from foot-and-mouth disease, German export volume fell by almost one-third compared to the previous year.

Frozen pork accounted for the largest export volumes, at approximately 432,000 tons. Together with offal, these two product groups accounted for approximately 72% of total exports. China remained the most important buyer, followed by the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and Japan.
