Exports of pigs and pork from the EU increased in 2025 compared to the previous year. Despite regional restrictions and declining deliveries from individual member states, the overall EU export level remains stable.

EU pork exports to increase in 2025

Exports to third countries increased by 2.1 percent compared to the previous year, reports AMI. The total exported volume in 2025 amounted to 4.2 million tons.

Spain remains the main supplier with 1.312 million tons and a market share of 31 percent. Compared to the previous year, Spanish exporters increased the exported volume by 1.6 percent. However, since the outbreak of African swine fever in the Barcelona area in November, the Spanish export options have been limited. In December, the quantity of pork exported to third countries was noticeably lower than the volume of the same month last year, according to AMI

The Netherlands remains in second place among European exporters of pigs and pork, despite a slight decline of 2 percent, with a total market share of 16 percent. Danish exporters increased their export volume to third countries by 7 percent, securing a market share of 15 percent. Germany follows in fourth place among European exporters to third countries, with a 13 percent decrease in export volume of pigs and pork to third countries

China was the most important customer, even though its imports from the EU were lower than in 2024 due to increased domestic production. The second largest customer in 2025 was the UK, also despite a lower export volume. These declines were offset by increased exports to other countries, reports AMI.
