INFTEXPO, which will be held in Amman later this month, fits the trading company’s strategy to increase its revenues in the Middle East by USD 50 million this year

A new event dedicated to the food and beverage industry is being born in the Middle East. The International Food and Technology Expo (INFTEXPO) will take place between the 17th and 20th of August in Amman, the capital of Jordan, and is expected to attract around 100 of the largest companies in the sector. One of them, Garra International, is an animal protein trading company that stands out for the deep commercial exchange it promotes between Brazil and the countries in the region.


This relationship has become increasingly important for Brazilian exports. In 2021, for example, out of the 4.6 million tons of chicken meat shipped, almost a third (1.33 million) had countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen as destinations. In the first half of 2022, Egypt took the third position among the biggest beef importers, generating revenues of USD 274 million – a 268% increase compared to the first six months of 2021. The data are from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) and the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec).


With Garra, there is a similar uptrend. The Middle Eastern countries are responsible today for 65% of all the company’s exports – up from 57% in 2010. All products, which include chicken, beef, and mutton, have Halal certification. The term designates products and services that can be consumed by the Muslim population.


“The halal protein market has been growing year after year, not only because of the demand from the Arab countries but also because of the Muslim communities spread around the world. Jordan, specifically, is one of our main hubs in the Middle East,” says Matias Hees, CCO at Garra. “It is a mature market for chilled and frozen products, in addition to being an important supplier for regional brands of processed products.”


During INFTEXPO, Garra will be located in Pavilion C8, stand 9SQ/M. On site, visitors will find information about the company and the opportunities it offers for different types of markets. There, it expects to develop relationships with new partners, deepen its knowledge of the local network and discuss ways to add more value to the business.


Garra plans to increase its turnover in the Middle East by USD 50 million in 2022, a growth of 40% compared to 2021. Today, the company sells 120 thousand tons of animal protein annually – to around 500 customers in more than 60 markets – and aims to quintuple its revenue, to USD 1 billion, by 2030.
