Germany: Fewer cases of ASF in wild boar
39 ASF cases in wild boar in October
While 92 cases were reported in August according to data from the Animal Disease Information System (TSIS), the number dropped to 53 in September and to only 39 confirmed cases in October. The federal states of Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia are currently most affected. No cases of African swine fever (ASF) have been reported in the eastern federal states of Brandenburg and Saxony for several months; consequently, some restricted zones there have been reduced in size or lifted.
Hunting season: Strictly adhere to ASF hygiene measures
Despite this positive trend, the risk of the virus being introduced into domestic pig herds remains high. Pig farmers should be aware of the danger and not let up on biosecurity measures on their farms. The risk of ASF infections remains high throughout Germany.
Especially with regard to the upcoming driven hunt season, all hunters must be cautious and adhere to preventative and, above all, hygiene measures with the utmost vigilance. Hunters should refrain from hunting trips to ASF-affected areas.
