Gilberto Tomazoni: "Agriculture must be at the center of the discussion"
With the aim of increasing the participation of the private sector in COP30, the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) launched, the Sustainable Business COP30 (SB COP). The event, which took place at the CNI headquarters in Brasília, brought together important figures from the government and the business sector, with a special participation by Gilberto Tomazoni, global CEO of JBS. The SB COP, inspired by the success of the B20, aims to create an international business representation group to bring the private sector's contributions to the negotiations of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will take place in Belém, Pará.
"The productive sector is committed to sustainability", stated Ricardo Alban , president of CNI . "We want to show what Brazil and industries around the world are doing to contribute to the climate agenda". Alban highlighted the importance of COP30 for Brazil and the need for the private sector to come together to ensure that the country is a showcase during the event.
The governor of Pará , Helder Barbalho , highlighted the state's potential for the bioeconomy and the carbon market: "Pará is open to sustainable businesses". Barbalho also emphasized the importance of COP30 to consolidate a new model of sustainable development in the Amazon, reconciling environmental preservation with the generation of green jobs.
Gilberto Tomazoni , in his speech, defended the leading role of agribusiness in the global climate agenda. "Agriculture must be at the center of the discussion", said the executive, highlighting Brazil's potential to lead the way in sustainable food production. Tomazoni pointed out the need to increase productivity in the field, bring technology and technical assistance to small producers, and attract more investment to the sector. "Brazil has extraordinary examples, such as the production of three crops in the same area and the application of regenerative practices. We need to scale these examples", he said.
Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago , president of COP30 , celebrated the creation of the SB COP and the country's unity around the climate agenda. "COP30 will be an extraordinary opportunity for us to show the world the relevance of Brazil", he said. Corrêa do Lago stressed the importance of private sector participation for the success of COP30 and invited everyone to join together in a "national pact for COP30."
Sustainable Business COP30 promises to be an important space for dialogue and the construction of joint solutions between the public and private sectors to address climate challenges. With the active participation of leaders, the initiative reinforces Brazil’s commitment to leading the way towards a more sustainable future.
