INTERPORC highlights the flexibility of Spanish pork in the changing international landscape

During his speech, Alberto Herranz, CEO of INTERPORC, emphasized this flexibility, a key factor that has allowed the sector to consolidate its position as a global leader, recalling that "the Spanish white pig sector has grown by competing in international markets, in a world with more friction and uncertainty than certainty." In this regard, he also noted that "currently, the challenge is not to sell at any price, but to keep the market open, with a margin of safety and reputation."

A production model that guarantees health and safety

The Spanish production system follows the European model, which is recognized as the most demanding in the world in terms of food safety, sustainability, animal welfare, and traceability. All of this serves as a guarantee of quality and trust for consumers and international trading partners.

This adaptability and strength of Spanish pork has led the sector to export a total of 2.72 million tons of pork in 2024, valued at over €8.784 billion.

China is the main destination for these exports, with 539,064 tons and a value of €1.097 billion, followed by France and Italy with 289,865 tons (€1.072 billion) and 274,591 tons (€796 million), respectively.

Other important markets include Japan, the Philippines, and South Korea in Asia, and Portugal, Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic in Europe, for a total of more than 130 countries. This number and diversity of markets make white-coated pork one of the major drivers of Spain's agri-food trade balance.

The event, organized in Madrid by the National Association of Agricultural Engineers, the Agrarian Forum Foundation, and the Spanish Engineering Institute, also included representatives from the olive oil, animal feed, beef, and dairy sectors.
