INTERPORC presents to the president of the Generalitat the importance of the pork sector in Catalonia
Aragonès has been very interested in the evolution of the pork sector in Catalonia, since it is one of the most important in the economy of this autonomous community both in turnover and in job creation.
In this sense, Manuel García has highlighted the relevance of Catalonia for the Spanish pork sector since, without a doubt, "it is one of the reference regions, not in vain it occupies first place both in the ranking of production volume and in the exports".
For his part, Alberto Herranz has presented to Aragonès the figures achieved by Catalonia in 2023, a year in which “the production of Catalan pork companies totaled 1.9 million tons, 40.13% of the national total; of which 72.9% were exported, that is, 1.4 million tons.” In total, Catalan exports of meat and processed pork products account for 51.5% of the national total.
In addition to Aragonés' visit, the INTERPORC stand during the first day of Alimentaria received other institutional visits, such as that of Yao Jing, ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Spain; as well as a large audience, which turned the Interprofessional stand into one of the busiest at the event.
A space where you could take an interactive visit to a farm; participate in a knowledge test about the pig sector; and taste white pork products at all times, be it ham cut by the master cutter José Sabiote González; assorted snacks; or recipes prepared by chefs Mayela Armas and Marga Lee and the students of the INS School of Hospitality and Tourism cooking school in Barcelona.
