INTERPORC reinforces the requirements for the B+ Animal Welfare Commitment Seal

Likewise, it incorporates all the Spanish and European legislative developments on animal welfare and the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) will verify the work of the certifiers that verify and certify compliance with the IAWS Regulation.

In other words, in addition to the obligation for an entity accredited by ENAC to verify compliance, from now on it is the Regulation itself that is accreditable by ENAC.

The objective is to ensure the technical competence and compliance with international standards by the certification entities and that their work is constantly supervised through the demanding evaluation process established by ENAC.

Alberto Herranz, director of INTERPORC, recalls that for INTERPORC it has always been essential that verification of compliance with the Technical Regulations "be external to the sector and be carried out by specialized entities".

For this reason, he highlights that "the obligation to have the ENAC accreditation to certify the IAWS Technical Regulation becomes the best guarantee for consumers that the white-coated pig sector in Spain is at the forefront of animal welfare worldwide".

The INTERPORC director points out that "this Technical Regulation is one of the emblems of the white-coated pig sector. We have the most demanding regulations in the world and our will is to immediately incorporate new legislation to stay even above them".

In this sense, the IAWS Technical Regulation will incorporate, allowing an adaptation period, all the new requirements included in Royal Decree 159/2023 in relation to the pig sector, and which aims to improve the application of European regulations on official controls and other animal welfare activities.

A Royal Decree that establishes rules and changes, among others, in the protection of animals on farms; on animal health and welfare; and in the sanctioning regime of the Law for the care of animals, on the farm, transport, and slaughter.
