Ibrahim Yumakli: Poultry meat will be exported from Turkey to EU countries

Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli announced that, as a result of intensive negotiations, 8 of the poultry meat processing facilities could export heat-treated poultry meat to the European Union (EU) and that this was approved by the EU.

Ibrahim Yumakli: Poultry meat will be exported from Turkey to EU countries

Minister Yumaklı celebrated the 5th December World Soil Day of all farmers in his speech at the opening of the "3rd Global Farm Summit" event organized by the All Dairy, Meat and Breeding Cattle Breeders Association (TÜSEDAD) at Hektaş Farm in the Orhangazi district of Bursa.

Yumaklı stated that when livestock farming is evaluated in general, the most talked about topics this year are the meat and dairy sectors, and emphasized that the country's population size, urbanization rate, number of tourists and exports encourage the growth of the food sector.

Yumaklı explained that Turkey has provided a great infrastructure to the sector with the many applications it has implemented in plant and animal production, and said:

"At this point, we can clearly say that our agricultural production has grown in 17 of the last 21 years. When we look at the future, I am talking about all the developments in the world today and when we consider all the scenarios for the future, I must state here that this sector needs to grow much more, and that this is not just a wish and desire but a necessity. Of course, we are also developing many methods to protect the sector against risks".

Yumaklı, who drew attention to the fact that Turkey met the risk factor with the strong infrastructure it developed, said, "Of course, I must say that while this strong infrastructure was being provided to our country, livestock policies were based on the four pillars of support, rural development grants, R&D activities and regulations".

Minister Yumaklı stated that they have provided 328 billion liras of support to livestock in the last 22 years and that 27.6 billion liras of support will be given to the livestock sector in 2025.

Pointing out the importance of the Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM), Yumaklı reminded that the amount paid from TARSİM for livestock alone since 2006 is approximately 17 billion liras.

Yumaklı reported that they aim to triple the milk yield per animal, which is 3,158 liters, in 5 years, and the target for carcass meat yield is 380 kilograms.

Yumaklı, who explained that they have been making intense efforts to increase the number of breeding animals recently, continued his words as follows:

"A project was initiated between the Meat and Milk Board and the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TİGEM) to encourage the establishment of breeding enterprises that produce their own beef cattle and it has now been put into practice. We want to present this as an example, a model. Very soon, we will feel the impact of this throughout Turkey, especially when the numbers are close to 50 thousand. We aim to increase the number of meat breeding enterprises, which are of course relatively easier to care for and feed compared to dairy farming. Our sole purpose is to provide our producers with affordable animals and to ensure that our consumers consume and access animal products at affordable prices. While doing all these, we aimed to ensure that our producers can see the future in both plant and animal production for the next 3 years and we have announced this. In the following period, such a thing will not be considered. Will this policy change next year? No, it will not. I would like to guarantee this from here".

Minister Yumaklı stated that they had to direct their perspective towards efficiency and quality criteria in animal and plant production.

Announcing the significant development in poultry meat exports, Yumaklı noted: "We have had very intensive negotiations with the European Union, especially since last year, regarding poultry meat exports. Thank God, our intensive work has yielded results. In particular, 8 of the poultry meat processing facilities have been approved by the European Union to be able to export heat-treated poultry meat to the European Union. In addition, our local companies have started to produce high-quality specific dairy products that were completely imported. I would like to thank our businesses that carry out both production titles and have never given up on that struggle. I would like to say that our work with countries regarding the export of our products continues very intensively".
