Israel: Upward trend in its meat imports

With a high dependence on foreign markets to supply its market, Israel is an essential destination for Mercosur exporters, who can channel forequarter cuts at a good price, a significant issue when integrating the half carcass.

Argentine is the main supplier of beef, both frozen and chilled, although in 2025 there was a notable increase in imports from Paraguay. Mercosur accounted for 91% of total imports.

Despite the war and price increases, last year Israel imported chilled and frozen beef worth a total of $1.201 billion, 24% more than the previous year.

The main imported item was frozen boneless meat, although there is a growing demand for chilled meat. In 2025, the relatively larger increase was again seen in chilled meat (40%). In both categories, boneless meat predominates, although bone-in meat—both chilled and frozen—has begun to gain importance in recent years.

In 2025, Argentine maintained its leading position as the main exporter of beef, both frozen and chilled. Its sales to the Israeli market saw a significant increase, although not comparable to that of Paraguay, which doubled its 2024 figures and quadrupled its 2023 exports.

As a result of this growth, Paraguay became the second most important supplier by revenue, displacing Brazil from this position, which in the second half of last year accelerated the pace of operations and reduced differences.

Uruguay experienced a decline after the increase seen in 2024.

Poland has a significant presence in chilled meats, but the bulk of the trade - frozen boneless meats - remained clearly concentrated in the four Mercosur suppliers .

In 2025, Argentine accounted for 43% of the total value of imports, while Paraguay and Brazil contributed 21% and 19%, respectively; Uruguay accounted for 9% and Poland for 5%. Mercosur members represented 92% of the total.
