JBS inaugurates Brazil's largest and most modern chick hatchery
JBS resumes operations at its broiler hatchery located in the city of Rolândia, Paraná. Responsible for 12% of the chicks produced by Seara, the poultry "nursery" received an investment of R$ 135 million for recovery and modernization following a fire in the facility in 2023.
Recognized as the largest and most technologically advanced hatchery in the country, the facility has the capacity to incubate over 16 million fertile eggs per month, occupying an area of 16,314 m². Using a single-stage incubation process, the eggs are placed and removed from the machines all at once in each incubation cycle. Technically, this process is considered one of the best, as it allows for the cleaning and disinfection of all machinery at the end of each procedure, enhancing the quality standard of the process. Following animal welfare principles, the hatchery provides greater environmental control, promoting the development of embryos with greater efficiency and quality.
The hatchery also features a climate control room, alarm system, and environmental monitoring with cameras throughout the facility. Additionally, fire control instruments have been installed. Vamiré Luiz Sens Júnior, Executive Manager of Agriculture of Seara, states that the reconstruction was focused on bringing a completely modernized operation. "Everything was designed to ensure excellent levels of efficiency and optimization of natural resources. In addition to process improvements, incubation performed closer to the farms reduces the transportation time of eggs and chicks, resulting in even better service to our integrated partners."
It's worth noting that, with the installation of the reverse osmosis process, which filters water through specific equipment to retain particles and physical and microbiological pollutants, the facility will also save approximately 200,000 liters of water per month by using distilled water in the incubation processes.
The Rolândia hatchery will serve municipalities in northern Paraná, specifically in the cities of Campo Mourão, Santo Inácio, and Jaguapitã, but is authorized to serve other units if needed.
Scheduled to start operations in the second half of February, the hatchery was rebuilt in record time, completing in just 10 months. During this period, 200 people worked on the construction. With the resumption of activities, the facility will have 155 employees.
