Japan confirms inspection to open its market to Paraguayan beef

The announcement came after bilateral meetings between the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, and the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, and the president of the National Animal Health and Quality Service (Senacsa), José Carlos Martin, with representatives from MAFF, as part of the president's official activities in that country.

"We received another questionnaire from Japan prior to the visit. An effort was made to complete all the documentation, and President Peña Nieto personally handed it over to Prime Minister Ishiba, who reported that the audit for Paraguay had already been ordered", explained the head of Senacsa.

The date for the risk assessment phase to begin and establish health equivalency is expected to be set in approximately 30 days. Martin indicated that this would be done later this year.

For Paraguayan health authorities, this is a very important step in the process of authorizing the export of bovine meat products to the Japanese market.
