MHP resume poultry exports

MHP announced that it will continue to produce grains and poultry meat in its farms placed in the center and west of Ukraine, areas which are relatively safer than the rest of the country. Also, the largest poultry producer in Ukraine said it will continue to export poultry using trucks to ship the products outside the country. Before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, MHP -- which also grows corn, sunflower, wheat and rapeseed -- generated about 60% of its $1.9-billion annual revenue from exports. That share dropped to almost zero as the conflict cut the company off from its usual seaborne shipment routes, forcing it to seek alternatives.
"We are considering exporting by railways, but it is difficult because of the differences in infrastructure between the Ukrainian railways and the European railways. We have started poultry exports using trucks and in the nearest time expect to increase export volumes," said MHP CFO Viktoria Kapelyushnaya for Bloomberg News.
During the first month of the war, MHP has redirected some of its poultry products to those engaged in defending Ukraine and to hospitals and refugee camps. The current sowing campaign may target almost 95% of the land owned by the company. MHP was a major supplier of poultry in the EU, the Middle East and in Asia. Some of that markets may be lost due to the disruption created by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. however, the Ukrainian poultry producer owns another poultry unit in Slovenia and 5 new farms in Serbia.
