Malaysia halts meat imports from three Australian processors

This year in August the Malaysian Veterinary Institute has imposed temporary restrictions on meat imports from three Australian meat producers, including Thomas Food International, who refused an interview for ABC News.

ABC News reports that it is unknown which other producers are affected by the ban and what are the issues that led to the decision of the Malaysian authorities to ban meat imports from these companies.

Patrick Hutchinson, Australian Meat Industry Council chief executive, told ABC News that it is unlikely that livestock producers will feel the impact of this restriction. Malaysia represents a small market for Australia's meat exporters.

For Thomas Food International, nonetheless, this is the second suspension in three months.
