Marel Poultry partners with retailer Costco on building poultry plant
Marel Poultry will equip the factory with its latest technology: three complete slaughter lines, which will utilize Marel Poultry’s newest live receiving system, ATLAS; three Shock/Maturation air chill systems, complete with automatic transfer into the system from evisceration and out of the system to the distribution line; two distribution lines complete with weighing and vision grading to plan all downstream processing activities; five AMF-i cap deboners; two Marel Poultry in-line Thigh Deboning Systems within cut up; and five Marel SensorX machines for bone detection, according to a press release.
Marel Poultry will deliver the system by the end of 2018.
Costco wants to process two million chickens a week or 25,200 birds per hour. The processing plant will handle about a third of the raw and rotisserie chicken sold at Costco stores nationwide.
Costco invested nearly 300 million dollars in its new poultry processing factory, hatchery and feed mill. Costco estimates that it will employ nearly 800 workers. Production is due to start in April 2019.
