Modern packing and test methods at the centre of Anuga FoodTec 2018
Modern packing methods and the way the products are tested represents the guarantee of safe food and a longer shelf-life, both of them searched by consumers and producers alike. At Anuga FoodTec 2018, packing and food safety are going to be some of the topics that will benefit from a special focus during the international trade fair in Cologne.
Meat, poultry, fish and seafood packed in a modified atmosphere are keeping their freshness for a longer time due to the replacement of normal air by an optimised atmosphere comprising of carbon oxide, oxygen, nitrogen and argon meant to protect the product and to extend the sell-by date in the refrigerated shelf.
This packing method has an easy way to test the leaks with a spectrum ranging from spectrum ranges from random tests in the water bath, to visual inline inspections, through to gas-based technologies that detect leaky packing.
Also, hygiene and biosecurity are important for any producer so new X-Ray scanners and metal detectors will be on display in Cologne. Metal detectors provide valuable assistance in detecting magnetic and non-magnetic metals. However, they do have their limits in the case of glass, ceramic and stones. X-ray scanners are used for these materials. In recent times more and more often appliances that are based on the dual energy technology are joining the single energy systems on the market.
These type of technologies are now used to combine packing functions with demanding detection and weighing technologies within a holistic system. Whereas the check weighers and multi-head weighers guarantee the exact weight, the leakage detection checks each individual tray for escaping gas and the X-ray scanner identifies possible foreign bodies. In this way, packing with contaminations or the wrong weight can be reliably discarded.
The production in the food industry has never been so closely and seamlessly monitored as today. Innovative quality control technologies are under the spotlight at Anuga FoodTec. And not only at the stands of the over 1,700 exhibiting companies. The significance of the theme food safety is also reflected in the offerings of the event programme. On the first and third days of the fair, foreign body detection and the leakage test of MAP packing are on the agenda of the forum "Themes, trends, technologies - this is what is moving the food industry", informs the organizers.
