Muslim countries need to secure a larger share in global halal market

Assad Sajjad Zaidi, CEO of International Halal Center, said during the World Halal Summit in Istanbul (WHSI) that there are no Muslim countries among the top 10 halal producers in the world and urged these countries to take measures in order to secure a larger share of the global halal market, according to the International Quran News Agency.

Mr. Zaidi said the 10 biggest exporters of halal products are India, Brazil, Austria, the US., Argentina, New Zealand, France, Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore, accounting for 85% of the total halal market.

He added that the biggest halal meat exporter in the world is India, while Thailand is the biggest halal product exporter.

From the total halal market, the Muslim countries have a share of 15%, Malaysia and Indonesia being the most important producers from these countries.

Turkey recently implemented the country's first Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK) which will serve Muslims across the world when it opens before the New Year.

The Turkish Economy Minister, Nihat Zeybekci, also said non-Muslim countries' firms have 80% of the $4 billion halal market.

The World Halal Summit Istanbul (WHSI) and 5th OIC Halal Expo took place Under The Auspices of The Presidency of The Republic of Turkey Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdo?an during 23rd – 25th November 2017 at Lütfi K?rdar International Convention and Exhibition Center.
