New set of rules for Chinese meat importers

Meat importers from China must now obey a series of mandatory compliance guidelines for meat companies aimed at fighting COVID-19, as the country still suspects that the virus can be carried by meat and meat products. "All imported meat products must certify, among other documents, the necessary certificate to carry out nucleic acid tests. Full traceability of all meat products must be proven. All slaughtered animals from which meat imported into China is sourced must originate from areas considered to be non-epidemic. Both farms and slaughterhouses, cutting rooms, processing centers or cold storage involved in any of the phases of the treatment of a meat product that arrives in China must certify the carrying out of complete and periodic cleaning and sterilization", says the new set of rules issued by the Chinese government. Several major meat exporters have been impacted recently by a halt in meat imports issued by China due to COVID-19 outbreaks in their processing units. Most of those companies are from Europe and South America.
