PARAGUAY: Beef exports grew 20% in 2021

Thanks to this measure, the neighboring country registered a historical export record in 2021, introducing 326,698 tons to international markets for a total of 1,599 million dollars.

This otherwise successful result, reported by the National Service for Animal Quality and Health (SENACSA) of Paraguay, finished consolidating a growth that has been recorded since 2017, when meat was exported for a total of 1,102 million dollars. Something similar happened with the exports of bovine offal, which reached 58,000 tons for a turnover of 120 million dollars.

Argentine was going through a similar process due to the strong demand for meat that came from China, until in mid-2021 the government decided to impose a policy of quotas and prohibitions that will continue at least until the end of 2023 .

This stocks favored neighboring countries, which are ranchers like Argentine. In tons, Paraguayan meat sales in 2021 represented an increase of 20.5% compared to 2020, which drove revenue growth in dollars by 43.3%. Average export value was $ 4,890 per ton, an increase of $ 780 from the previous year.

For the specific case of offal, sales grew by 14.3% compared to 2020 and turnover increased by 45.9%.

In total, there were 47 markets that Paraguay accessed, with Chile being the main one with 135,000 tons and a turnover of 712 million dollars. Russia came in second with 79,000 tons and a turnover of 313 million dollars. The podium was completed with Taiwan with 30,000 tons for 162 million.
