PROVACUNO and APAQ-W announce the launch of the Sustainable European Beef program

Under the slogan "For a sustainable Europe, the special mission of beef", the campaign aims to raise awareness among citizens of the European beef sector's commitment to achieving the Carbon Neutral Target and improving sustainability. It will also inform the sector itself of the latest trends and developments in the field of sustainability to assist them in the transformation process they are undergoing to achieve this goal.

For Javier López, director of Provacuno, "the sector's professionals are, above all, European citizens with a firm commitment to sustainability. The European beef sector has taken on a clear mission: to achieve a sustainable Europe and guarantee the Carbon Neutrality Target. This program will help us in that process and, in doing so, will allow citizens to join in as well".

A mission driven by the transformation of the sector

With a strong focus on the sector, the campaign will be present at some of the most important professional events, such as national trade fairs-like Figan and Salamaq-and international ones-like Anuga and Sial.

The project will launch a tool to understand emissions from the beef sector, covering both livestock and industrial production, with the goal of continuing to improve environmental sustainability. To this end, an API will be developed that will connect an emissions calculation application with the management systems (ERPs) used in the sector. This will allow livestock farmers and industrial producers to automatically, quickly, and accurately understand the emissions from their farms or industries, facilitating decision-making to reduce their carbon footprint.

The sector-focused initiatives will culminate in two editions of an International Symposium on the Sustainability of European Beef Cattle, to be held in Brussels and accessible both in person and online. This symposium will feature internationally renowned experts and organizations with scientific expertise in sustainability issues. The first edition will be held on November 12th; registration is free and is now open through the website www.vacunosostenible.eu.

Involving citizens in Europe's sustainability

Achieving a Sustainable Europe is everyone's responsibility, and for this reason, over the three years of the programme, a significant effort will be made to inform citizens in general, and young people aged 18 to 40 in particular, about the sustainability of the European beef sector, always based on science. This will also include raising awareness about how continuous improvements are being made at all stages of the process to achieve the Carbon Neutral Target and what measures the sector is taking to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and improve soil conservation.

During the campaign, scientifically proven content will be generated and disseminated through the website, social media profiles, and seminars held at universities with the participation of various researchers and experts in sustainability and climate change.
