Paraguay receives ratification of country free of foot and mouth disease with vaccination

The validation, which was issued by the official status department of the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO), constitutes an international recognition of the continuous efforts made by Paraguay to maintain high standards of animal health and biosecurity.

"This ratification of status is the result of the joint work of the public and private sectors, which, with their effort, dedication and professionalism, contribute to strengthening animal health in Paraguay", the official statement said.

In this way, Paraguay reaffirms its commitment to the protection of animal health, since it represents the fundamental pillar for the growth and sustainability of the country's livestock production, the report adds.

Senacsa President José Carlos Martín Camperchioli stressed that through this ratification, red meat protein will continue to be exported to different markets worldwide with complete food safety.

"It is not only of sanitary importance, but also of geopolitical importance, because there are many markets that use the existence of viral circulation of the disease to protect their markets. In our case (Paraguay) that will not happen because we are free of disease", he said.

Paraguay, unlike some countries in the region that have stopped vaccinating, has decided to continue immunizing its cattle against foot-and-mouth disease, at least until 2025.
