Poultry exports from Ukraine increased by 42.5%
In the first 5 months of the year, Ukrainian poultry exports have increased by 42.5% compared with January-May 2018 totaling $256 million (+38.1%), informs the State Fiscal Service.
In the last couple of years, investments in the Ukrainian poultry sector have intensified as the country's pig herd has been hit by the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.
Imports of poultry in January-May 2019 slightly fell, to 50,600 tonnes, in monetary terms decreased 1.4%, to $20.4 million.
According to the service, in January-May 2019 pork exports decreased by 16.7%, to 767 tonnes worth $1.75 million, a fall of 17.9% year-on-year. At the same time, pork imports doubled, to 10,300 tonnes worth $19.1 million.
Data released by State Statistics Service in May shows that in the first 4 months of this year, meat and poultry production in Ukraine stood at 1.138 million tonnes, which is 5% more than in January-April 2018, and egg production increased by 7.3%, to 5.344 billion pieces.
