Provacuno uses anthropology to defend meat consumption

Meat consumption is one of the main reasons that made us what we are today, argues Provacuno using examples given by anthropology.
"It was Homo erectus the first hominid that began to consume meat, 2.6 million years ago. The recurrent droughts and the consequent lack of plant-based foods pushed our ancestors to seek alternatives of animal origin to compensate their diet, also taking advantage of the improvement in hunting weapons and their expertise in this field.

This is how meat became a fundamental pillar of the human diet. They even add in Meat and Health, 10,000 years ago this food was almost one hundred percent of the daily intake due to the decline in the consumption of plant foods.

The calories provided by the meat printed more power and capacity to the brain of the human being, which favored his intellectual development", informs a press release from Provacuno.
The global meat market is now subject to several changes brought by new trends in consumption, with the food industry trying to replace meat from the consumer's menu with lab-grown alternatives (clean meat) or plant-based protein as an alternative to classical meat products. Nevertheless, a diet based 100% on meat substitutes is not possible, considering our own history. "Neither vegetables, despite their higher protein content than cereals, fully met the needs of our ancestors, as they lacked essential amino acids, vitamins such as B12 or iron, nutrients that are found in products of animal origin.
Before the discovery of fire, the meat was consumed raw and ground thanks to rudimentary tools. From the arrival of the possibility of cooking, the hominids experienced changes in their bodies, which expanded and stylized, and in their brain, which increased in size. From there they would be changing the jaw, gums and teeth.
In short, what we are today we owe, in large part, to the flesh", commented Provacuno.
