Resounding success for INTERPORC at SIAL China 2025
A position that was highlighted by Elena Busutil, Director General of Agricultural Production and Markets of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA), who during the opening of the event emphasized the leading role of Spanish pork in Spanish agri-food exports to China.
Another key event was the institutional dinner held on May 20, which brought together representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA), the Spanish Embassy in China, and executives from participating companies. This meeting served to strengthen institutional and business ties, essential for consolidating the sector's internationalization process.
As part of its Plan to Support the Internationalization of the Spanish Pork Sector – INTERPORC 2025 – and on its third trip to Asia this year, the Interprofessional Trade Fair led the participation of 20 Spanish companies at SIAL. The 846-square-meter stand in Hall E7 constantly attracted distributors, representatives of the HORECA sector, and specialized media from all over China, becoming one of the main attractions of the fair.
All of them were able to delve deeper into the distinctive values of Spanish pork: sustainability, animal welfare, food safety, and widely recognized product quality. To achieve this, ham tastings were offered, led by master carver Abraham Cambres, as well as spectacular showcookings of Spanish-Chinese fusion cuisine.
"We are very pleased to be the leading supplier of pork to China, one of the most competitive markets in the world," said Manuel García, president of INTERPORC.
For his part, Alberto Herranz, director general of the Interprofesional, added that "the success of the fair has reinforced our commitment to internationalization and allows us to showcase to the Chinese market the potential of Spanish pork as a synonym for excellence, innovation, and responsibility".
In total, in 2024, Spain exported 539,000 tons of pork and pork products to China, valued at over €1.097 billion, consolidating the Asian country's position as the main customer of Spanish pork, both in volume and value.
