Romania: Middle East conflict blocks sheep meat exports

Nechifor explains that the disruption of transport routes to the Gulf region has led to a temporary halt in shipments of sheep meat, particularly lamb, to countries such as Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

"Regarding exports to the Middle East, we are affected—both as a producing country and the nations that were importing from us, such as Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. These are states that used to purchase intensely from Romania. I recently had a meeting with representatives from Saudi Arabia at the Romanian Parliament, and they were looking for very large quantities. The agreement is finalized, but unfortunately, things are being obstructed due to the conflict in the Middle East. The losses are significant on both sides: we cannot export and thus face challenges in selling our livestock at the optimal time, while they cannot meet their consumption needs, especially since their traditional holidays are approaching and they were counting on Romanian sheep meat," stated Nechifor.

Furthermore, he emphasized that Arab countries are highly attracted to Romanian sheep meat, citing both the superior quality of the products and the competitive pricing.
