Romania's ACEBOP request temporary halt of Polish poultry imports

In the last few weeks, several Polish poultry farms were affected by an outbreak of highly pathogenic bird flu (H5N8 subtype). Following these events, several countries in the region, including Belarus and Latvia, have temporarily suspended Polish poultry imports. Now, the Romanian Association of Pig, Cattle and Sheep Breeders and Exporters urges Romanian authorities to adopt a similar measure in order to protect both consumers and the industry.
"Authorities in the EU member states have already taken precautionary measures to stop the virus enter their territory. As risk evaluation, Romania is in front line due to the high volume of poultry and egg imports from Poland. Having both ASF and bird flu in the country it would be a disaster for producers and processors," explained Mary Pana, ACEBOP's Chairwoman, in a press release issued by the Association.
