Russia imposes temporary ban on supply of pork from Romania
Starting from August 2, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, Rosselkhpznadzor, imposed temporary restrictions on the transit of live pigs from Romania through Russian territory, as well as live pigs that transit the Romanian territory to the Russian Federation.
The Russian authorities also announced that the ban does not apply to feed additives chemical and microbiological synthesis and prepared feed, subjected to heat treatment (the temperature is not below plus 70 degrees Celsius, the processing time of at least 20 minutes), second-hand equipment for keeping, slaughter and butchering of pigs.
"Rosselkhoznadzor informs that in connection with registration of African swine fever outbreak in Romania (...) on August 2, 2017, imposes temporary restrictions on import into Russia from the territory of Romania of live pigs, their genetic material, pork and raw pork products, meat from wild boars, leather, intestinal materials, bristles, finished products containing pork, not subjected to full taxidermy treatment of hunting trophies obtained from the susceptible species of animals, all kinds of feed and feed additives for pigs," the report said.
The report also states that all pork products, which arrived from Romania to checkpoints across the Russian state border after August 2, 2017 inclusive, will be sent back no matter the date written on the veterinary documents of the products.
An outbreak of ASF was confirmed recently in Romania by the Animal Health and Diagnosis Institute in a household near Satu Mare, which expanded to a second household, according to the National Authority for Sanitary-Veterinary and Food Safety (ANSVSA).
