Spain and China to develop closer ties in pigs, cattle and sheep sectors

China is interested in developing new bilateral ties with Spain's pigs, cattle and sheep sectors. The announcement came after the XXVIII meeting of the Joint Commission for Economic and Industrial Cooperation at the Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom) in Beijing, according to CdeComunicacion magazine.
The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, applauded the efforts being made by China to open its market - considered a priority by the Government - and pointed to the objective of increasing exports of industrial products, agri-food and luxury good. Officials from both countries are involved in negotiating the protocol for beef and sheep and the Spanish part pointed out the fact that Spain is a country free of bird flu and 'mad cow' disease
Minister Maroto requested the speeding up in the processing of slaughterhouse authorizations, and that the Chinese Government make arrangements with Russia so that this country facilitates the transit of Spanish goods to Asia through the Madrid-Yiwu train, to avoid the existing customs problems in the border by the embargo imposed on several EU agri-food products.
For its part, the Minister of Commerce, Zhong Shan, expressed his willingness for China to import more Spanish products, as well as its interest in the development of online commerce and the presence of Spain in the upcoming China International Import Expo, which it will take place at the beginning of November.
