Spain: The pork sector celebrates the agreements reached with China to strengthen exports

INTERPORC underscores the importance of this new agreement, which will expand the list of authorized products exported from Spain, such as stomachs, highly valued by Chinese consumers, and increase sales of other products already present and with high added value, such as cured hams.

The Asian giant is one of the main markets for Spanish pork. In 2024, exports to China reached 540,000 tons, with a value of over €1.097 billion, representing almost 20% of the total export volume and 12.5% of the sector's foreign sales value.

INTERPORC Director Alberto Herranz emphasized that these figures "are the result of the trust generated by our production model and the international recognition of the high standards of quality, food safety, animal welfare, and sustainability that characterize Spanish pork".

Stable and predictable multilateral trade

Herranz explained that "China is a highly important market for Spain, but at the same time, we are its main supplier and play a strategic role for them. That's why we have always advocated for an understanding between the Spanish government, the EU, and China. And these agreements are moving forward in that direction".

He welcomed the fact that "in these uncertain times, there is a commitment to multilateral trade based on clear and predictable rules, as this is key to the stability of businesses, investments, and the well-being of citizens".

He also thanked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, with whose department INTERPORC has collaborated very closely, along with the Ministry of Commerce, Economy, and Business, and the Presidency of the Government.
