Spanish beef once again conquers Foodex Japan thanks to PROVACUNO

As in previous editions, PROVACUNO is using this platform to address the Japanese market, a market that demands high-quality beef. Japan is one of the countries that consumes and imports the largest quantities of meat from grain-fed animals, such as the beef produced in Spain. The new healthy eating habits shaping consumption in this country are leading to a search for lean meats with a pleasant flavor, primarily from young animals, like those characteristic of the Spanish production model.

For all these reasons, our beef fits perfectly with the consumption habits of the Japanese citizen, who seeks quality and food safety and who positively value that our production maintains the firm philosophy of animal welfare, sustainability and the absence of growth promoters and substances that increase the shelf life of the products.

Japan is a country with growing consumer demand (over 1 million tons annually), while maintaining its domestic production (around 500,000 tons), thus requiring a high volume of imports, exceeding 600,000 tons per year. Spain received authorization to export to Japan in 2020 and has since become a leading European exporter to this country. Specifically, exports to Japan have surpassed 1,500 tons in the last year, establishing Spain as a highly reliable alternative for the demanding Japanese market.

In the words of Javier López, director of PROVACUNO: “The commitment of Spanish beef production to the high standards of quality and food safety imposed by the European Production Model, in terms of quality, animal health control, commitment to sustainability, hygienic control of facilities and introduction of technological and R&D models, positions us as a commercial partner of interest for Japanese commercial channels, even though these different requirements compared to the production model of other countries mean that, temporarily, we have to present a product with a high price; although Japan is a country where quality is prioritized over price.”
