Spanish pork exports to third countries increased by 123%
Spanish pork exports to third countries grew up by 123,8% in the last four years, according to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). The non-EU countries that have most increased their demand for pork and processed pork products from Spain are South Korea (+ 67.3%), Japan (+ 7.5%) and China (+ 4.2%).
Spain is also the cuntry that is curently increasing its pig population, hoping to set a stronger foothold in this markets and to open new ones in the near future. In 2018, the country exported 675,531 tonnes of pork to markets outside the EU borders.
Exports of the pork sector inside and outside the EU already amount to 1,826,644 tons, representing an increase of 14% in the period analyzed.
The first destination of exports of the pork sector remains the European Union, specifically France, and to a lesser extent Portugal and Italy, occupy the first positions. Regarding non-EU destinations, China continues to lead the ranking with a demand very similar to that of France.
