As an initiative of the white pork sector itself, INTERPORC has developed the 'Welfare Commitment Certified' seal, which endorses the good practices carried out not only in animal welfare, but also in food safety, handling, animal health and biosecurity.

In this sense, the INTERPORC Animal Welfare Spain (IAWS) certification is defined and distinguished by a series of elements:

• The IAWS Technical Regulation is a document endorsed by an animal welfare scientific committee of experts that provides the necessary component of science and evaluates and decides on any modification to be applied in the Technical Regulation, updated and in continuous evolution when there is new animal welfare research and consumers concern increase.
• The IAWS Technical Regulation is a public document, so there is nothing to hide and shows an exercise of total transparency.
• The IAWS Technical Regulation will be accredited in the future by the National Accreditation Body (ENAC) and therefore can be an internationally recognized certification.
• In order to audit the IAWS Technical Regulation, auditors must be qualified and have specific training, as being from the animal health and production field (veterinarians, agronomists, etc.). In addition, the training offered on the self-control system is completely free.
• As an interprofessional, INTERPORC cannot receive, and does not receive, any financial benefit from the IAWS certification. Therefore, it is a voluntary and cheaper certification available to the white pork sector.
• The certification system is based on quantifiable and objective indicators.
• The certification bodies are completely independent.
• 100% of the farms are audited an evaluated thanks to the self-control system.
• Three different categories of production/handling systems are established.
• Other related areas are included (biosecurity, comprehensive traceability, animal health, food safety, antibiotic control, product quality, etc.).

Finally, it must be taken into account that for consumers, the "Welfare Commitment Certified" seal aims to provide truthful and transparent information on the effort that the white pork sector has been making for years in its desire for continuous improvement and self-demand, based on European and national animal welfare legislation, the most demanding in the world.
