The Chinese government announced guidelines on new rules for beef imports

In summary, some of the points that the government said will change as a result of the implementation of the safeguard are:

  1. Stricter and more frequent controls by Customs.
  2. Establishment of quotas for all imported goods.
  3. Suspension of the authorization of a greater number of plants, especially of companies that have a large number of cold storage facilities.
  4. Strictly limit the allocation of credits for the importation of beef.

During the meeting it was said that “it is clear” that imported beef has caused a “serious impact” on domestic production, so the state departments involved “must take measures to protect domestic livestock to avoid a destructive impact”.
