The US is a better market for Polish pork exports than the EU -analyst

Poland has managed to clear the path for pork exports in the US market for 16 to 19 plants in the country despite the fact that the country is confronted with multiple African Swine Fever outbreaks.
That can be seen as a victory for the sector as the prices on the American market for Polish pork products can be more generous than what is offered inside the EU, explains Jakub Olipra, an economist at Credit Agricole Bank Polska in an interview with Portal Spozywczy magazine.
"In 2017, in terms of value, we sent 13% to the United States. our exports. The importance of this direction has been growing dynamically in recent years. As recently as in 2013, the US share in pork exports was only 3%. The US is an alternative to the closed markets of Russia, China and Japan. In addition, Americans recognized the principle of regionalization, which is rare when it comes to markets outside the EU. What's more, pork exports to the US are beneficial in terms of value to volume. The Polish producers get a better price per kilogram of meat sent to the USA than on the EU market", said Olipra.
In his opinion, in the next coming months, the price of Polish pork would most likely deviate from the EU price, especially in Germany, which is of key importance to Poland's domestic market.
