The average consumption of meat in Spain is 4 times a week

Meat consumption in Spain has fallen steadily in the last 10 years and the latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food shows that last year, Spaniards have eaten about 47 kilos of meat per capita, with 3 kilos less than in 2017.
Health issues and animal welfare are the main reasons for 29% of the Spaniards to reduce their meat intake, reveals a study conducted by Federacion Empresarial de Carnes e Industrias Carnicas (Fecic) along with the Association of manufacturers and distributors (AECOC).
The 2018 report showed that Spanish consumers like to consume meat regularly and 56% said that they did it for the pleasure and enjoyment that comes with it. In addition, 45% said they used it for a balanced diet of proteins and nutrients, and even one in four, for health reasons.
Also, another relevant data in the 2018 report is that the average consumption of meat in Spain is 4 times a week although a quarter of consumers considered that they ate more meat than they should. In the scenario that was drawn, there was a perception of a constant decrease in the consumption of meats, favoured by social pressure and changes in the lifestyle of consumers.
"A report of this type, in which, in addition, focuses on a topic of interest, will allow us to have a history of indicators of the sector, which will help companies to know trends of consumption and the keys of decision of the consumer to be able to adapt thus his strategies and products", declared the general secretary of Fecic, Josep Collado.
The next report on consumer habits in Spain is to be released in March, during the lunch prior to the inauguration of the AECOC Congress of Meat and Processed Products 2019, announced Interempresas magazine.
