Turkey sees a decline in poultry production
Poultry meat production in Turkey registered a decline compared to the same month last year, according to the latest report released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The number of chicken slaughtered in January was 97 million, down by 6.7% compared to January 2018, while turkeys have reached 430,000 (-7.1%).
Chicken meat production reached 168,908 tonnes and decreased by 6.9% compared with the same month of the previous year. Turkey meat production reached 5,080 tonnes and decreased by 2.8% compared with the same month in 2018.
Also, in January, calendar adjusted retail sales volume with constant prices decreased by 6.7% in January 2019 compared with the same month of the previous year. In the same month food, drinks and tobacco sales decreased by 2.9%, according to official statistics.
