Turkish sheep flock has expanded by 7.2% last year
Turkey's national flock of sheep and goats has increased by 6.3% last year to 57.5 million head, with sheep inventory growing by 7.2% and goats rising in number by 3%. Currently, Turkey's sheep flock is at 45.1 million head, while goats are 12.3 million, according to a press release from TurkStat.

The number of bovine animals decreased by 0.7% compared to the previous year and is slightly above 18 million heads. Cattle herd has seen a decline of 0.6% reaching a total of 17.8 million animals, while the rest is completed by buffalo. For the last two years, Turkey has drastically reduced live animal imports as red meat consumption has declined due to inflation and COVID-19 restrictions.
