Ukraine culls 100,000 pigs in one single ASF outbreak
100,000 pigs were culled on a farm owned by Halychyna Zahid company, in Ukraine, after some animals were tested positive to African Swine Fever disease. This is the biggest incident that occurred in Ukraine in the last six years since the country is fighting the ASF virus. The number equals 1.6% of the pig population in the country.
The outbreak was confirmed by Halychyna Zahid on its Facebook page, even if the company didn?t offer further details. A similar incident was reported in 2015 in the Kyiv region, when 60,000 pigs were culled on a farm, mentioned Reuters.
Ukraine has detected 351 cases of ASF since 2017, and 72,226 pigs have been killed. Ukraine's pig population totaled 6.4 million head. During the first six months of the year, Ukraine exported more than 1,000 tonnes of pork, 46% of this volume being shipped to Vietnam.
