Ukraine's meat exports grew in the first two months of 2018
The Ukrainian association said that from total meat exports, poultry meat accounted for the biggest share of 81%, or 44,000 tons, 12,000 tons more compared to a year ago. Ukraine's top buyers of poultry meat this year are Iraq, the Netherlands and Slovakia.
Regarding meat consumption in Ukraine, the association said that domestic consumers eat more poultry meat and pork rather than beef. In January and February, as a percentage of total meat consumption in this country, poultry meat accounted for 48%, while pork and beef accounted for 42% and 10% respectively.
Ukraine's meat production reached 387,800 tons in the first two months of 2018, with 0.7 thousand tons more compared to the corresponding period from the previous year.
During this time, poultry meat production reported an increase of 4.8%, while beef and pork production fell by 3.2% and 5%, respectively.
Furthermore, in the first two months of 2018, the number of birds increased by 1.4%, whereas the number of cattle and pigs decreased by 5.3% and 7.7% respectively.
