Ukrainian poultry exports increases by 27.8%
In the first month of the year, Ukraine has increased poultry exports by 27.8% reaching a volume of 37,350 tonnes worth $45.87 million (+18%), according to data released by the State Customs Service. However, the results may look different for months to come as the main market for Ukrainian poultry, the EU, has placed a ban on these products due to an avian flu outbreak reported in mid-January.
Last year, Ukraine reported an increase of 26% in poultry exports, to 414,490 tonnes. The main producer in the country, MHP announced an increase of 25% in poultry exports for 2019. "Despite the challenges presented by the temporary ban on exports to the Saudi market, chicken meat exports in Q4 2019 increased by 20%, to 87,651 tonnes, and in 12M 2019 increased by 25% year-on-year, to 357,433 tonnes, allowing the Company to almost meet the planned annual volumes," said a report released by the company.
MHP chicken meat exports accounted for about 53% of total sales in 2019, compared to 48% in 2018. In total, the company produced about 728,900 tonnes of poultry last year (18% more than in 2018). Annual sales of chicken meat grew by 13%, to almost 670,000 tonnes.
