The announcement of the opening was made on March 28 by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, following official meetings with Vietnamese leaders, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chính.

"After many years of attempts, the Prime Minister announced that he will finally purchase Brazilian beef. This is extraordinary news, and I believe it's very important for Vietnam and Brazil", President Lula declared at the time.

The president also emphasized that the rapprochement opens the door for investment in Brazilian meatpacking plants in Vietnam, which could transform the country into an export platform for all of Southeast Asia.

In 2024, Vietnam imported agricultural products from Brazil worth $3.9 billion, including cereals, flour, textile fibers, and soybeans. With a population of 101 million, the world's fourteenth most populous country represents a growing market for Brazilian agribusiness.

The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, hailed the shipment as a victory for Brazilian agriculture. "Each new destination reached represents more income for rural producers, more jobs in Brazil, and the certainty that our products will reach the tables of millions of people around the world," he stated.

Luís Rua, Secretary of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (MAPA), added that the result is the fruit of collaborative work. "The first shipment reflects a joint effort between the government and the private sector. Access to the Vietnamese market adds to the more than 430 openings already achieved during this administration, expanding Brazil's presence in the Asian market, strengthening our trade balance, and diversifying our destinations".

The ceremony for the shipment's arrival in the country was attended by Juliano Vieira, Brazil's agricultural attaché to Vietnam. Vieira has actively participated in the negotiations and promoted the strengthening of ties between the private sectors of both countries. The work of agricultural attachés has been crucial to the international expansion of the Brazilian agricultural sector: more than two-thirds of market openings have taken place in posts staffed by agricultural attachés.

In 2024, Brazilian livestock production reached record levels. Beef reached 10.9 million tons, while total beef, pork, and poultry production exceeded 31 million tons, consolidating Brazil's position as one of the world's leading protein suppliers.

With the start of exports to Vietnam, both countries are deepening a trade relationship that already generates billions of dollars in agricultural products. The flow of shipments is expected to intensify in the coming months, expanding Brazil's presence in Southeast Asia and consolidating technical and health cooperation between the two countries.
