With new quotas, Brazil will reinforce its presence in the UK market

The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) celebrated the announcement made by the Brazilian authorities and the United Kingdom, on the conclusion of the agreement that establishes new volumes of export quotas for chicken meat from Brazil to the European country.

The agreement revises the division of quotas originally established shortly after Brexit and which, in some ways, did not accurately reflect trade flows.

"The conclusion of the agreement normalizes and establishes quota standards more suited to British demand. Furthermore, the agreement establishes the continuity of the certificate of origin mechanism, thus guaranteeing stability and tranquility to commercial negotiations", details ABPA's director of markets, Luís Rua.

As a result, Brazil now has a greater share of this market, especially in cooked and salted products - which have historically been in high demand from English processors.

"After a detailed negotiation and the competent work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, with the support of the Ministries of Agriculture and Economy, we saw the conclusion of a process that is fundamental for poultry exports. The new quotas should generate positive impacts on sales in the sector, reflecting the high demand that exists for the Brazilian product in this market", highlights the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

Between January and October of this year, the United Kingdom imported 79,794 thousand tons of chicken meat from Brazil, a number practically equal to that carried out in the same period of 2021, with 79,800.
