To stay competitive in a challenging market is the main goal for the Belgian meat industry, admits Rene Maillard, manager of the Belgian Meat Office, in an interview for EuroMeatNews.
Markets are now ruled by the consumer and that request for the industry "to find good answers to the society challengers [..] and to put meat again on the best self, in Belgium and in Europe", declared Maillard during the 13th edition of Belgian Meat Round Table, in Brussels.

"Meat sector has a lot to do in terms of perception, in restoring trust, because we are living in dogmatic times. We have to improve when we can and where we can the image of Belgian meat. When you have no image you do not exist", argues BMO's manager.
The event took place between August 29 and August 30, 2018, in Brussels and was attended by leaders, experts, and journalists from the meat industry. This year, the main subject of discussion was "Meat in the post-truth era."
