Serbia opens the Chinese market for pork
Serbia has just one more step to get full access for its pork in the Chinese market, to sign an agreement on phytosanitary protection. This week, Serbian Agriculture Minister Branislav Nedimovic and the Deputy Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, Zhang Jiwen signed an agreement in Belgrade which allows the export of pork in China, according to Serbian Monitor newspaper.
Officials in Belgrade expect the first Chinese inspection to take place in the upcoming months and that Serbian products will become available in the Chinese market by the end of the year. "The signing of these documents has strategic importance for Serbia in agriculture, due to the opening of the Chinese market to pork and dairy products", said minister Nemovic, who believes that the final signature will be given in Shanghai, during the agricultural fair held in November.
"The Chinese market is attractive because they are the largest pork consumers in the world. The volume of export of pork will depend on the market situation, our offers and prices", explained the minister in a press release.
Due to the ASF situation in China, the country's national pig inventory is expected to contract by 200 million head until the end of the year. Lately, China is considering importing pork from Russia, even if parts of the country are affected by the ASF virus.
