ASF situation in Germany: 3,634 ASF cases

In the past few days the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI) has identified further cases of ASF in wild boar in Brandenburg and Saxony. Most of the finds were recently found in the Spree-Neisse district in Brandenburg and in the Saxon district of Görlitz.

According to current information from the Animal Disease Information System, there are now a total of 3,634 confirmed cases of ASF in wild boar in Brandenburg, Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

So far, the cases of ASF in domestic pig herds have remained in the four affected farms.

According to a recent report by the Nordkurier, the construction of the second ASF protective fence on the German-Polish border is in progress. Around 20 kilometers of the second fence between Autobahn 11 near Pomellen and the Linken border crossing have been completed. The goal is a total of about 70 kilometers to the island of Usedom.

Claus Tantzen from the Mecklenburg-West Pomeranian Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment informed the Nordkurier that around 5 million euros were estimated for the second fence construction. The sum is not only made up of construction and material costs, but also includes the costs for inspection and repairs for a period of five years. For this purpose, professional hunters were hired to drive down the full length of the fences twice a week.
