All countries in Latin America triggers an alarm on ASF

22 professional associations in Latin America formed a continental committe to prevent ASF virus to spread any further in the region. In a statement published last Tuesday, the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) said that the committee, installed the day before, had already carried out a survey of regional actions and established work to strengthen sanitary defense on the continent.
The committee intends to launch soon an intercountry campaign to raise awareness in the community and economic sectors about the importance of preventive care in the fight against African swine fever, in a movement that will have actions with producers, society and government leaders of the countries involved.

"The action reinforces the work that is already underway in Brazil, in a broad articulation to prevent the situation from reaching the continental part of the Americas," said ABPA president Ricardo Santin in a statement.

“Jobs and the guarantee of food supply are at stake, at a time when food supply is strategic for nations. By unifying efforts, we will be more effective in monitoring problems and risks, and contributing to quick bilateral or block solutions,” he added.
ASF resurfaced after 40 years in the Dominican Republic stirring worries among major pig producing countries in the area, such as the US, Canada, Brazil etc as the disease has already impacted large economies in Europe and Asia.
